Microgreen Calculators

This page hosts tools and calculators to help you grow microgreens easily and efficiently.

It’s a living page. So, stop back soon! My goal is to build a useful tool or calculator once a month.

If you have an idea for a calculator you would like to see, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Microgreens seeding density calculator

How to use:

Enter the width and length of your growing area in inches. For a 10×20 tray enter 10 and 20.

The safe amounts tell you what you should be able to plant in average conditions, without issues.

The ideal density is what you can aim for once you’ve dialed in all the variables. You might even be able to push past it!

When planting at higher densities, there are a few steps you can take to improve success and yields. You’ll want great ventilation, nice clean seeds, sterilized if possible. The right amount of water, and the right temperature will all increase the density you’re able to grow.

Upcoming calculators

  • Cultivar/genotype selector (easy, medium, hard to grow, and why)
  • Seeding density calculator (based on area of growing medium and desired density (thin, normal, dense. Supported by real experiments soon!)
  • Seed cost calculator
  • Profitability calculator
  • Startup cost calculator

I’m Alex Lafreniere. I learned a lot about plants when I built and operated a landscaping company. But, there’s always more to learn. Ever since travelling across the world, I’ve wanted to find ways to bring more tropical and exotic plants into my life. This is the site where I share everything I’ve learned with you.
